The Profile Creation Flow for a Networking App for Entrepreneurs

Project Overview:

The focus of this project was the design of the profile creation flow for a networking app for entrepreneurs using responsive web design. The solution was to create a website called ENA (Entrepreneur Networking App).

My Role and Responsibilities:

My Role:

• Lead UX Designer and Researcher

My Responsibilities:

• User Research
• Wireframing
• Low Fidelity Prototype
• High Fidelity Prototype

User Research

Summary:

Preliminary interviews were conducted on four different entrepreneurs, where they were asked about their experiences with social media as well as business networking sites in order to empathize with users and better understand what was lacking in current platforms.

User Pain Points:

• Social media and networking platforms are very cluttered (full of ads and irrelevant material).
• Current networking algorithms show users what the platform thinks they want to see rather than what they actually want.

User Persona: Naim

Age: 27
Education: Bachelors
Location: Queens, New York
Profession: Entrepreneur
Naim is a young entrepreneur living in the city where he focuses on building companies for social good.
"Finding like-minded individuals is paramount to the success of my collaborative projects".
Goals:
He wants to find and connect with like minded individuals.
Frustrations:
Current networking platforms have no filtering process. Additionally there are privacy concerns.

Digital Wireframes

The wireframes were first drafted on paper, with multiple iterations created in the process. The best elements of the paper wireframes were then combined in order to create a finalized wireframe which was then created in Adobe XD. Tweaks and changes were made to the digital wireframe, again in an iterative process, to optimize for digital use.

After the low fidelity wireframe was created, it was time to prototype! The prototype was created by starting at the landing page where users could either login or sign up. After the low fidelity prototype was created, it was tested by multiple users in a usability study, which highlighted any pain points that the users had, as well as allowed me to better understand the natural flow a user follows when using the app. Once these issues were resolved, I was ready to move to the next stage.

High Fidelity Mockup

After more user testing of the low fidelity prototype, a high fidelity prototype was created, Typeface and font selection, color scheme, iconography and animations were incorporated as part of a design system to create a polished working model of the application. This process was applied After this was completed, another usability study was conducted, to see if there were still any pain points or areas of improvement.

Takeaways

What I've Learned

Every project is a learning process that allows me to learn about the user and their needs. This project helped me improve my responsive web design skills in Adobe XD, and allowed me to better understand user needs when creating a social media profile.

Next Steps

• I will continue to build wireframes and add other sections of the app to the prototype.
• I will make sure the responsive design is consistent across devices and is optimized for all screen sizes.
• I will continue testing with more users to find bugs and pain points and make changes as needed.
